Although the city was established nearly 600 years ago, it has changed just a little over the centuries. Wandering around from plaza to plaza, exploring small art galleries, shopping from the street markets and having a cup of coffee at Piazza San Marco is generally a daily routine for everyone! Further adding to Venezia's beauty are its beautiful canals with shimmering waters, everywhere. No matter how many times you travel to Venice, you’ll discover something new every time!

Places To Visit in Venice

St. Mark's Square

St Mark’s Square, also known as Piazza San Marco, is Venice's main public square - the place where everybody gathers, strolls, drinks coffee, catches up with friends or just passes through on the way to work or play. The largest structure of Venice is best known for the amazing uniformity of its architecture on the three sides. To get the best view of this amazing palace, either climb to its top or to the top of Torre dell’Orologio.

Canale Grande (Grand Canal)

Grand Canal (Canale Grande) is a giant reverse S curve that sweeps through the heart of the city. Connecting Piazza San Marco, Rialto Bridge, the arrival points of the rail station and bridge from the mainland, the Canale Grande is considered as the principal avenue of Venice. All the prominent personalities and leading families of the city have their palace's open onto the canal, with their showy Venetian Gothic and Early Renaissance facades facing the water. A trip along the canal by Vaporetto is definitely the best way to have a closer look at these facades.

Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge)

Built in the 16th century, the Rialto Bridge was once the only bridge across the Grand Canal. The Rialto Bridge was built some 150 years after the collapse of the wooden bridge and marks the spot of Rivus Altus- the Island’s first settlement. The stone arch is quite popular with tourists posing for pictures, and for watching the assortment of boats crossing under it.

Gallerie dell’ Accademia

A trip to Venice is incomplete without a visit to Gallerie dell’ Accademia, aka Accademia. A very popular museum, Accademia is situated on the Grand Canal. As stated before, it is a very important museum, it houses one of the most important and comprehensive Venetian painting collections of the 15th-18th centuries. Furthermore, all the artworks at Accademia are represented in a chronological order, so that you can't only trace the evolution but also run a comparison between works of different contemporaries.
